go green!

I try really hard every day to be as green as I can be. Being a vegetarian helps, but my concern for the environment is not the reason for my vegetarianism (neither is the animal thing -- I just don't like meat). Whether I am recycling, buying things locally, or letting my laundry dry naturally in the air, I always try to be environmentally aware. Take a minute and read these great tips about how you can help the planet by incorporating these environmentally friendly suggestions into your daily life.

I love when brides and grooms have environmentally friendly details at their weddings. This could be in the form of recycled glass vases, vintage jewelry, or even organic champagne! Check out these delightful eco-friendly invitations by vreelanddesign on Etsy. Love them!!! I am just dying to shoot a wedding with these colors!

Have I ever mentioned how much I adore AVEDA? Each time I walk into an AVEDA store or salon, I just feel so good. The scents are to die for -- and knowing that AVEDA cares about the environment, well, that makes it even sweeter! AVEDA founder Horst M. Rechelbacher states, "Our mission at AVEDA is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society. At AVEDA, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility -- not just in the world of beauty, but around the world." Now isn't that wonderful?

If you have made it this far, I would love to send you my favorite AVEDA candle -- the Madagascar Plant Pure-Fume Candle. All you have to do is tell me how you are making your life a little greener in the comment section below. Maybe it is something you are doing at your wedding...maybe it is something you are incorporating into your daily life. Either way, I would love to hear about it! On Friday this week, one lucky winner will be chosen!

  1. Aveda is amazing! My fiance and I recycle just about everything! It's a real effort for us because we live in an apartment and we have to take our recycling to a facility, but we make the trip once a week.

  2. I love those invite! Lindsay, you find the coolest things. I'd love to hear more about the organic champagne! As far as doing our part, I'm big on air drying my clothes too. They last so much longer and it is better for the environment.

  3. This new blog is amazing. How did we ever survive without it? It was great seeing you the other day, btw. Just had to mention that the "shower with your partner" suggestion made me giggle! :-) I can't wait for the farmer's market to open back up. That's one of the major ways I contribute!

  5. Ooooh I want a candle! We created a wedding website to reduce paper for our wedding! In our daily lives, we are big time recyclers.

  7. Hey, Shannon! It was great seeing you the other day too! I seriously love the color combination on those invitations. Someone please do a wedding using those colors so I can make you famous! :-)

  8. Ask Jared...he gets irritated with my "green" tendencies :) I run around the house unplugging things we aren't using. We buy those re-usable shopping bags (favorite bag: Kohls). Use brita filters instead of plastic bottles. NO LITTERING!! And we are switching to the special light bulbs that save money!! Woo! But my favorite "green" thing....is the "Method" cleaning line...we use it for everything!!

  9. We always unplug small appliances that aren't being used (i.e. hair dryer, coffee maker). Even things that aren't turned on use power. It's good for the environment and for our power bill!

  10. As much as I love baths, I gave them up a long time ago. It's showers only for me! I also unplug small appliances that are not being used.

  11. I ride my bike to work. I really do! (Unless it is a hundred degrees below zero...then I carpool.)

  12. Wow, I didn't know that about car washes! I assumed washing in a bucket at home was better. Ugh. I will change my ways ASAP. But I do recycle, turn off appliances I'm not using, and I have low energy light bulbs.

  15. This post totally reminds me of the Jack Johnson song "3 Rs"! I, like most people who have posted here, try my best to reduce, reuse, and recycle. I also shop locally as much as possible and buy organic when available.

  16. Ugggghhh. I totally forgot about Method products and Ken and I LOVE that line! We use everything from the hand soap to the dish detergent to the laundry detergent to the soy candles. Everything smells sooooo good and it is good for the environment too!
